Helping Students Strengthen TRUE Fluency To Increase Confidence, Instill Creativity, and Develop A Positive Attitude Toward Mathematics

HOW I CAN HELP YOU?

  • One-on-One (Individual) Tutoring

Students will engage in one hour of math instruction. Each hour will be based on customized math goals aligned to the scope and sequence of their school’s math curriculum. We will fill gaps, improve fluency, and provide enrichment on a very individualized level. Instruction will include hands-on math tools, visual representations, and connect the conceptual understanding to more abstract numbers and symbols. The goal is to see what is happening with numbers in math and why it works (and why it matters).

  • Group Tutoring

During one hour of math instruction, students will experience a safe environment to take risks and participate in rich math discourse. Through research-based practices, students will take part in activities that will encourage them to reason, problem-solve, share their thinking, and learn from the ideas of others. Instruction will be differentiated in discrete and meaningful ways to ensure individual needs are met. Group tutoring sessions are for groups of 2-4 students.

  • Coaching

Hourly sessions for educators and/or guardians to unpack the shifts in mathematics education. In isolation, the changes may seem arbitrary, time consuming, and frustrating. Helping your child may then feel the same. Coaching sessions aim to give you guidance and confidence when helping your student(s) to succeed. You will receive a combination of professional development, unit planning, and resources specific to your wants and needs.

Group coaching is also available, and is intended for groups of 2-6 parents or educators (including homeschool).

ABOUT ME

As a student I did well in elementary mathematics using memorization, but once more reasoning was required, I began to struggle and lost confidence in math. It affected my performance and ability to improve. Math tutors helped me succeed throughout school. When I began to teach I realized it wasn’t about my intelligence. Rather it was relying on memorization that led me astray. As I taught and continued my own education in mathematics, my brain  began to think of math so differently, and I developed a wonderful relationship with the subject. I continue to further my education daily, and want to bring the same “ah ha” moments to my students. If my adult brain could be rewired, I know others will benefit from the knowledge I’ve gained.
